Endometriosis: 3 Practical Cases at the Pharmacy
Endometriosis is a complex condition that affects at least 1 in 10 women of childbearing age.
At the pharmacy, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians play a key role in listening to patients, identifying telltale signs, and supporting affected women.
This presentation draws on three real-life scenarios encountered at the counter to illustrate how the pharmacy team can respond to:
• an undiagnosed woman presenting with suggestive symptoms,
• two diagnosed patients seeking support and advice.
The main objective of the presentation is to demonstrate the potential role of the pharmacy in the care pathway and to encourage teams to undergo training to better support women with endometriosis.
- By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Recognize certain signs suggestive of undiagnosed endometriosis based on a real-life scenario at the front desk.
- Identify appropriate pharmacy-based support strategies for patients with endometriosis.
- Recognize the role that pharmacy staff can play in the patient care pathway, and the value of receiving training to work in a coordinated manner with other healthcare professionals.
