Medications, medical devices, and supplements: the differences

This session will provide pharmacy teams with the tools they need to identify and understand the key differences between medications, medical devices, and dietary supplements—which are recommended at the pharmacy counter, particularly for preventing and managing everyday ailments. Topics to be covered include the regulatory framework for each category, their importance to the pharmacy’s operations, future prospects, and key factors for understanding the pharmacy team’s responsibilities related to dispensing each type of product and promoting their proper use. The session will conclude with a question-and-answer period.

  • By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: - Explain the main differences between drugs, medical devices, and dietary supplements - List the main market trends for each product in the pharmacy - List the key points to watch for when providing advice and dispensing products.
