PGP - 2026 Lecture Series
Antibiotic resistance and the proper use of antibiotics
March 15, 2026
Therapeutic Areas
Antibiotic resistance is a major public health priority, responsible for millions of deaths worldwide. France remains among the highest consumers of antibiotics, primarily in urban areas, where nearly one in two prescriptions is unnecessary. The 2022–2027 national strategy is based on the proper use of antibiotics and infection prevention. The CRAtb support healthcare professionals, particularly community pharmacists, who play a key role through rapid diagnostic tests (TROD), appropriate dispensing, and patient education
- By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Understanding the Current Challenges of Antibiotic Resistance in France and Around the World
- Identify the key role of community pharmacists in the appropriate use of antibiotics
- Using practical tools in the pharmacy (rapid diagnostic tests for strep throat and urinary tract infections, prevention messages)
- Adopt a structured approach to BUA, in collaboration with CRAtb and local stakeholders
