Yann Kho: “Artificial intelligence is an exceptional decision-making co-pilot”

Yann Kho, the owner of the Pharmacie Louvre Victoire in Paris and a member of the PharmagoraPlus Ambassadors Club, has been interested in artificial intelligence for several years. With a Ph.D. in pharmacy, he devoted his dissertation in 2019 to deep learning applied to healthcare, well before the recent boom in these technologies.

“I became passionate about artificial intelligence—and deep learning in particular—long before the recent surge in interest. This early immersion helped me realize that the technology would become an extraordinary tool for processing data and modernizing both patient care and business operations at the pharmacy,” he explains.

Today, Yann Kho uses artificial intelligence in two complementary areas. Clinically, it supports patients and facilitates preventive health screenings through dedicated apps. On the administrative and organizational side, it helps analyze supplier invoices, draft emails and administrative correspondence, manage schedules, and create promotional posters and videos displayed on screens throughout the pharmacy.

“I use it in two ways: on the clinical side, to support patients and conduct preventive health screenings through an AI-powered app; and on the administrative side, to analyze invoices, draft letters, manage schedules, and create communication materials,” he explains.

Among the most time-consuming tasks, artificial intelligence can, in particular, sort and summarize the many emails received each day, analyze invoices, and draft reports on preventive measures.

“Reading and sorting through dozens of emails every day, reviewing invoices, and drafting reports on safety assessments save me several hours a week,” says Yann Kho.

The tool also helps simplify team management. Connected to the pharmacy’s calendar, Gemini Pro can, with a single command, provide a summary of overtime, time off, and schedules. This information can then be sent to the accountant to prepare the necessary data for generating pay stubs, without having to manually search for employee data on a per-employee basis or fill out an Excel file.

“My Gemini Pro is connected to the pharmacy’s calendar. With a single command, I can get a breakdown of the month’s overtime, vacation time, and how absences are scheduled. This report is then sent to my accountant to prepare the pay stubs, without having to search for the information or fill out an Excel file for each employee,” he explains.

Two tools in particular illustrate this complementary relationship between care and management. On the patient side, the Ygie.eu platform automates the summarization of preventive care assessments and directly generates a personalized action plan. On the organizational side, the integration between Google Workspace and Gemini Pro facilitates the sorting and summarization of emails, the analysis of schedules, and the preparation of monthly communications related to pay stubs.

“I’d highlight two complementary tools. On the care side, Ygie.eu automates the summarization of preventive care assessments and generates the patient’s action plan in real time. On the administrative side, the integration between Google Workspace and Gemini Pro sorts and summarizes emails, prepares a summary of work schedules, and drafts the monthly communications for pay stubs. All I have to do is click ‘Send’ after reviewing them,” says Yann Kho.

The impact on productivity is significant. By taking on some of the repetitive administrative tasks, artificial intelligence frees up time that can be devoted to medical practice and patient care.

“The impact is significant. AI frees me up from clinical work and helps reduce time-consuming administrative tasks. The cost savings come in part from the ability to provide more healthcare services at the front desk,” he says.

For Yann Kho, artificial intelligence serves as a true co-pilot for pharmacists, both in searching for information and in automating tasks.

“AI is an exceptional decision-making partner. On the one hand, language models can answer many questions; on the other hand, combining AI with automation greatly simplifies daily tasks. The possibilities are endless,” he says.

However, this use must be accompanied by precautions. Artificial intelligence should never replace the judgment of a healthcare professional.

“AI must remain a pre-processing tool, never the final decision-maker. The main risk is hallucination or misinterpretation if the models are not properly calibrated. We must always review the tool’s output to validate both the numbers and the health recommendations,” Yann Kho points out.

Reliability is thus based on the principle of “the pharmacist in the loop.” Every document, analyzed invoice, or patient report must be reviewed and approved. Confidentiality is also a priority: data must be anonymized or pseudonymized, the General Data Protection Regulation must be complied with, and health information must be processed in secure, HDS-certified environments—that is, environments designed for hosting health data.

For pharmacists looking to get started, Yann Kho recommends beginning by automating tasks that can be automated, particularly by integrating them with their pharmacy management software.

“Before tackling AI, I would first advise pharmacists to automate everything that can be automated and to work more closely with their pharmacy management software. They can then use tools that directly incorporate artificial intelligence to facilitate the new tasks assigned to them, such as preventive health assessments,” he concludes.

The goal, therefore, is not to replace the pharmacist’s expertise, but to enable them to devote more time to what is at the heart of their profession: advising, preventing, and supporting patients.
