In your opinion, medication nonadherence is a major public health issue. Why?

In France, it is estimated that 130,000 hospitalizations each year are due to medication misuse, resulting in the deaths of more than 10,000 patients, including 7,500 people over the age of 65. Through dose dispensing (PDA), pharmacists play a vital role in medication safety. In fact, placing the medication in a pill organizer improves adherence starting in the first month and maintains it over the long term.

 

What solution does PRATICIMA offer in this area?

To improve patient medication adherence, we have developed Pili®: a semi-automated PDA solution. This system consists of medication tracking software (Pili® soft), three secure single-use pill dispensers (Pili®, Pili® home, and Pili® 4.21), a single-dose repackaging system (Pili® solo), and an ultra-lightweight, sealable transport box for pill dispensers (Pili® box). 

The Pili® solution is fully compatible with our medication storage and dispensing solutions. PRATICIMA has specialized in medication management for 40 years and supplies equipment to approximately half of all nursing homes in France. 

 

Could you tell us about your traceability software?

The Pili® soft software ensures full traceability of medications while respecting the individualization of treatment. It tracks the entire course of treatment, including medications in the pill organizer, outside the pill organizer, and as needed.

Pili® soft is compatible with healthcare facilities' software systems. It can be integrated via a two-way or one-way interface, but can also be used without integration.

The software was designed to ensure the accurate dispensing of doses and to make the preparation process more convenient through guided pillbox setup. If a patient’s treatment plan changes, our solution allows for modifications to the pillboxes during the dispensing process.

Pili® soft also allows for the repackaging of individual doses of whole, half, and quarter tablets.

Because it operates in SaaS mode, the software can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection. It is hosted in France by an HDS-certified healthcare data hosting provider approved by the CNIL.

 

What makes your pill organizers revolutionary?

Our Pili® pill dispensers are single-use, tamper-proof, and cannot be reopened. They are designed with Made from 85% recycled material and 100% recyclable. They consist of a blister pack sealed with an adhesive label that lists the patient’s medication regimen. Our pill organizers allow for the distribution of medications by day and by dosing time. They are prepared in the pharmacy using the Pili® soft traceability software. The medications in the pill organizer are therefore all traceable via their lot numbers. They are fully compliant with the recommendations of Good Distribution Practices (GDP).

We offer three types of pill organizers designed for personalized 7-day medication schedules. Pili® is an A3-sized pill organizer suitable for unpackaged medications and sachets. It significantly reduces the amount of medication left outside the organizer. Pili® home is its smaller counterpart, in A4 format. Pili® 4.21 is an A3-sized pill organizer designed for loose dry tablets and small sachets.
