Inside the Pharmacy: What Pharmacists Expect Today

Inside the Pharmacy: What Pharmacists Expect Today
Porte Maillot Pharmacy - Johannes Heiderijk

To ensure that the next edition of the trade show is as closely aligned as possible with real-world conditions, the Pharmagora team set out to meet with six licensed pharmacists in Marseille and Paris: Félicia Ferrera, Camille Stavris, Yann Kho, Johannes Heiderijk, Asma Said, and Haykel Fakhfakh.

Their backgrounds, career paths, and practices may differ, but they share common concerns: how can they save time, maintain profitability, recruit staff, develop new services, and remain fully available to their patients?

They all emphasize the importance of being accessible and building a relationship of trust with patients. The pharmacy is often the first place people turn to, whether for prevention, advice, treatment follow-up, or referral to another healthcare professional.

The pharmacists we spoke with want to continue strengthening this support. Some are developing services focused on prevention, clinical pharmacy, or oncology. Others are seeking to better meet their customers’ needs through a selection of specialized products, nutrition, herbal medicine, or over-the-counter health products.

But this work is carried out in an increasingly challenging environment: shrinking profit margins, drug shortages, time constraints, recruitment difficulties, procurement management, assaults, theft, and economic uncertainty.

The discussions also showed that there is no single model for a pharmacy.

In Marseille, the discussions placed greater emphasis on the human, clinical, and social aspects of the pharmacy, as well as the need to better coordinate care with doctors and other healthcare professionals.

In Paris, pharmacists specifically mentioned competition, profitability, product management, tourists, office workers, digital communication, and security issues.

Some prefer simple and efficient operations, while others want to develop automation tools or more specialized services. This diversity underscores the importance of offering solutions tailored to the size, location, and needs of each pharmacy.

Artificial intelligence and automation are emerging as valuable tools for streamlining day-to-day operations. From ordering and scheduling to sales analysis, absence management, and administrative tasks, many pharmacists are already using these tools to save time.

However, they want concrete, scalable, and easy-to-implement solutions. Artificial intelligence must remain a tool to support organization and decision-making, without replacing the pharmacist’s expertise or judgment.

Practical and immediately applicable content

One message emerges clearly from these meetings: pharmacists want to learn from their peers. They are looking for transparent and practical insights: how to launch a new initiative, what resources to mobilize, how much it costs, how much time it takes, and what results to expect.

These discussions will help shape the program for PharmagoraPlus 2027, with content focused on profitability, management, recruitment, new roles, artificial intelligence, prevention, and the optimization of pharmacy management.

Because the future of the pharmacy is built first and foremost by those who keep it running day to day, PharmagoraPlus will continue to listen to what’s happening on the ground to offer conferences that are closely aligned with the profession’s needs.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Félicia, Camille, Yann, Johannes, Asma, and Haykel for their time, their trust, and the sincerity of their testimonials. Thank you for welcoming us into your pharmacies and for sharing with us your daily lives, your successes, and the challenges you face.
